REVIEW:
- 42nd Street Forever, Vol. 2: The Deuce is a pleasing follow-up to its predecessor, offering plenty of the expected grindhouse-trailer goodness while also adding a few new wrinkles to the mix. Exploitation fans will be happy to know that the disc's lineup is packed with all manner of b-movie greats: Ms. 45, Sugar Hill, The Born Losers, Squirm and The Pom-Pom Girls are among the titles featured here. These favorites are balanced by some intriguing obscurities: highlights in this area include the roller-disco film Skatetown U.S.A., the endearingly goofy blaxploitation trailer The Guy From Harlem and a hair-raising trailer for a horror flick called The Evil. These trailers are arranged by theme (like biker movies, horror fare, etc.) and 42nd Street Forever Vol. 2: The Deuce offers some surprises by covering some new thematic territory. The notable additions this time out are spy flicks like Kiss The Girls And Make Them Die and sword & sandal epics like Revenge Of The Gladiators are added to the mix here, providing some lighter fare that acts as a palate cleanser between the compilation's wilder moments. All in all, this is the kind of collection a b-movie fan can't lose with and anyone who enjoys the art of the exploitation-film trailer should give this a spin. ~ Donald Guarisco, Rovi
