REVIEW:
- A dark, dirty, nasty, unsettling film, Kei Fujiwara's Organ caused an uproar of controversy in Japan when it was first released. One only needs to check out the first few minutes to understand why. Fujiwara has created a movie that, much like the gorier films of director Takashi Miike, is more of an endurance test for the viewer than an actual film. Organ tells its twisted story in a manic, rapid-fire style that makes its two intertwining stories virtually impossible to follow. The two separate plotlines, combined with the over-the-top disgusting moments of ultra-violence, make for a disturbing and difficult viewing experience. One of the most troubling things about Organ is the director's seeming lack of purpose. Fujiwara never lets the audience know if she is attempting to make a statement for or against extreme sex and violence by using the graphic imagery seen in the film or if she is simply showing us violence for the shock value alone. Although Organ can often be impossible to watch, the overall bizarre nature of the film will hook some viewers who want to discover where this twisted gore fest will go next. Certainly not for those with a weak stomach, Organ is not a film likely to forgotten by anyone who makes it all way through to its blood-soaked conclusion. ~ Jason Gibner, Rovi
