REVIEW:
- Synapse continues their entertaining series of trailer compilations with 42nd Street Forever Vol. 4. While not quite as consistently strong as the third volume of the series, this compilation still delivers plenty of fun trailers arranged by 'blocks' of exploitation-movie themes. Highlights include a block of slasher-film trailers with deliciously kitschy promos for flicks like Schizoid and New Year's Evil and a block of revenge films that include promos for drive-in faves like Fighting Mad and Walking Tall Part 2. Fans of grindhouse fare will find this compilation's lineup dotted with favorites like It Came Without Warning, The Klansman and the action-packed promo for The Soldier. Unfortunately, there are some odd choices that don't really fit the "grindhouse" concept of the collection: trailer blocks devoted to exotic adventure fare like Shout At The Devil or coming-of-age comedies like The Chicken Chronicles are too mainstream in content and tone to deliver the trashy fun of the exploitation film trailers featured elsewhere on the disc. That said, the strong choices outweigh the duds and trailer fans will want to check 42nd Street Forever Vol. 4 out. ~ Donald Guarisco, Rovi
