MOVIE DESCRIPTION:

A small airplane flown by swaggering pilot (Rob Monkiewicz) and carrying a snobby paleontologist (David Bunce), his three female assistants, and a goofball stoner (Dan Merriman) crashes into rural farmland during a meteor storm. REVIEW:

• A huge improvement on director Brett Piper's clumsy Psyclops, Arachnia is a deliberate throwback to yesteryear: It's an archly styled creature feature with a 1950s sensibility and a hip, post-modern attitude. Forget overused computer generated special effects, the big bugs here are clay stop-motion animations and fuzzy puppets (and no one seems to mind that the colors don't match). The brief sex and nudity are shamelessly gratuitous, as is the occasional gore. Arachnia's humor and horror are akin to Tremors, but without the budget. And while it won't keep anyone but severe arachnophobics awake at night, it will amuse sci-fi, cult and horror buffs. ~ Buzz McClain, Rovi
