As shot at art galleries and museums throughout Europe and the United States, this ambitious documentary program takes as its central thesis the idea that over the eras, Christ's crucifixion has thematically dominated Western art more than any other motif. Moreover, as the centuries have passed, each new generation has filtered the cross through the lens of its own unique social and theological preoccupations, and the stylistic currents of the day.
