REVIEWS:
- The Three Stooges in period costumes never worked as well as one would think. The proof of that assertion is Back to the Woods, one of the team's lesser shorts from 1937. The "woods" part, in which Moe, Larry and Curly are chased around by Chief Rain in the Puss (Theodore Lorch and his tribesmen, is standard slapstick but the comedy's highlight is a minuet with three lovely lady pilgrims, Faith (Harlene Wood, Hope (Ethelreda Leopold and Charity. ~ Hans J. Wollstein, Rovi
- Wee Wee Monsieur contains only one single eye-poke, delivered by Curly to Vernon Dent, but sans accompanying sound effect. For once, this Stooges comedy scores higher on its verbal content than out-and-out slapstick components. Curly, facing a firing squad, to Captain Gorgonzola (William Irving): "Remember, your mother and my mother are both mothers!" Or, Curly, to Harem Girl: "Where have you been all my life?" Harem Girl (Ethelreda Leopold): "Down on Toidy-toid and Toid Avenue. I just got ova." ~ Hans J. Wollstein, Rovi
