MOVIE DESCRIPTION:

With 42,000 sightings in 68 countries, the elusive woodland creature known as Sasquatch, Yeti, and Bigfoot is one of the most enduring natural mysteries ever known to man. Hunted by humans for hundreds of years, the formerly reclusive man-like beast strikes out against his would-be captors in a mountain-based tale of survival and horror starring Jeffrey Combs, Lance Henriksen, and Dee Wallace-Stone. Years ago, mountain climber Preston Rogers (Matt McCoy) suffered a terrible injury that left him wheelchair-bound in his remote cabin. Something strange is happening in the woods these days, though, and if Rogers holds out any hope of saving the lives of either his neighbors or the young college girls on a weekend retreat to the California mountains, he's going to have to convince the skeptical Sheriff Halderman (Paul Gleason) that something sinister is happening amidst the thick foliage of the forest and that numerous lives will be lost if they don't act fast. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi

REVIEW:
  • Face it, there aren't too many great Sasquatch flicks out there in the rolling hills of B-movie-land; Ryan Schifrin's Abominable however, might just be one exception worth checking out. Sure, it isn't the first time that the Rear Window conceit has been adapted to fit the straight-to-DVD/cable shocker mold (see the equally impressive Mimic 3: Sentinel for proof), though there is something to be said about the creative doors that are opened because of it. One sequence in particular milks the voyeuristic perspective for all it's worth as the woolly monster wreaks havoc upon two floors of a house that's downright ingenious in its execution. Additionally, what really makes Abominable such a fun ride is its willingness to let loose with the bloody Bigfoot carnage. The big goofy lug of a bad guy might have a ridiculous-looking face, but as soon as he starts biting character's faces off and stomping on their caved-in chests, one can't help but love the gory glory onscreen. Genre veterans Jeffrey Combs and Lance Henriksen add to the fun in cameo-sized doses, though the real spotlight goes to composer Lalo Schifrin, who turns in a bombastic monster score for his son's first directing gig, thereby upping the class of the picture innumerably. ~ Jeremy Wheeler, Rovi
